Why loose tea? While there are some excellent bag teas on the market (see our bagged tea page), most tea bag companies grind their teas into a powder to ease bagging in the manufacturing process. While this is good for their profits, it is bad for the tea drinker. Loose tea consists of the entire leaf, which contains oils and natural chemicals that create the excellent complex flavor. When tea is ground and put into bags these flavinoids are, for the most part, broken down and lost, leaving an inferior cup of tea. Further, with loose tea you control the strength of the tea by using less or more tea in the steeping process. For stronger tea use more tea rather than steeping longer. Steeping tea too long creates a bitter cup of tea.
